Although successful Personal Statements vary in style and substance, they’ve probably got one thing in common: multiple drafts.

Personally, I went through nine (yes nine!) different versions of my Personal Statement before I arrived at one that I was ready and excited to put on my UCAS Application. Am, UniGlo’s Director of Internal Affairs, wrote 12 drafts before she submitted hers! Nandini, our Director of External Affairs, had 13 versions of her Personal Statement!

By treating your Personal Statement as an ongoing project, not a one-and-done essay, your Personal Statement is likely to be more succinct, persuasive, and nuanced. Different students have different ways to get through tasks, so I recommend you follow your (and your University Counsellor’s!) instincts, but here I’ll go through the different stages I personally went through.
